-
Whole cloves (optional, for studding)

½ cup honey
-
½ cup brown sugar
-
¼ cup Dijon mustard (or yellow mustard for milder taste)
-
¼ cup apple juice or orange juice
-
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
-
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
Optional Sides
-
Roasted vegetables (carrots, Brussels sprouts, or sweet potatoes)
-
Mashed potatoes or sweet potato mash
-
Green beans almondine or sautéed greens
-
Fresh dinner rolls
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ham
-
Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C).
-
Remove packaging, rinse the ham, and pat dry.
-
Score the ham in a diamond pattern about ½ inch deep.
-
Optional: Stud the intersections with cloves for a classic look and flavor.
2. Make the Honey Glaze
-
In a small saucepan, combine honey, brown sugar, mustard, juice, vinegar, cinnamon, and cloves.
-
Heat gently over medium-low heat until smooth and slightly thickened.
-
Set aside.
3. Bake the Ham
-
Place ham on a rack in a roasting pan, fat side up. Add ½ inch of water to the pan to keep it moist.
-
Cover loosely with aluminum foil.
-
Bake for 15–18 minutes per pound, until internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C) for pre-cooked ham.
4. Glaze and Caramelize
-
During the last 30–45 minutes of baking, brush the glaze generously over the ham every 10–15 minutes.
-
Remove foil during the last 15 minutes to allow the glaze to caramelize and form a golden-brown crust.
5. Prepare Sides While Ham Bakes
-
Roasted Vegetables: Toss carrots, sweet potatoes, or Brussels sprouts with olive oil, salt, pepper, and a sprinkle of brown sugar. Roast at 400°F (200°C) for 25–30 minutes.
-
Mashed Potatoes: Boil peeled potatoes until tender, mash with butter, cream, salt, and pepper. Optional: swirl in roasted garlic for extra depth.
-
Green Beans Almondine: Sauté green beans with butter, garlic, and sliced almonds until tender-crisp.
6. Serve
-
Let the ham rest for 15–20 minutes before slicing.
-
Arrange slices on a platter, drizzle with remaining glaze or pan juices.
-
Serve with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, and green beans for a complete, picture-perfect honey-glazed baked ham dinner.
Pro Tips
-
Extra Moist Ham: Place a few slices of pineapple or orange under the ham while baking; it adds moisture and sweetness.
-
Make-Ahead Glaze: Prepare the glaze a day ahead; flavors intensify overnight.
-
Gourmet Touch: Brush with a mixture of honey and bourbon during the last 15 minutes for a subtle smoky-sweet finish.
This dinner is sweet, savory, and beautifully caramelized, perfect for holiday feasts or elegant Sunday dinners.
- 18 to 20-pound smoked ham, water added, ham hock removed

- 1 cup (8-ounce jar) clover honey
Adjust the oven racks to accommodate a large covered roasting pan. Fit the pan with a shallow rack. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Check for doneness at the end of the estimated cooking time by inserting a meat thermometer at a meaty point (not into fat or touching the bone).
Allow the ham to stand for 15 minutes before slicing to allow the juices to set.
